Mapping Gender, 2011

Mapping Gender is a media project highlighting the roles and contributions of women scholars, athletes and achievers in University of Illinois history. It appears online and on digital screens around the University of Illinois campus. The project creates engaging digital animations based on archival research combining images and stories from the University of Illinois Archives and interviews with professors and alumni to create a moving history project. This project was created in collaboration with artist and activist Heather Ault and funded by a grant from the Gender Equity Council at the University of Illinois.

I will help, 2008

I will help is a public art project originally made for the Art Makes Place public art series in Nashville, TN. This original screenprint on paper was placed on community bulletin boards and public sites in Nashville, Glasgow, Chicago, Los Angeles, Urbana and New Yorks.

Milemarkers, 2009

Milemarkers, part of the Art Makes Place Public Art series in Nashville, TN, is a digital media project combining animated text and photography to tell the story of a community. Produced in collaboration with the Pi Beta Phi Rehabilitation Center, it follows the accomplishments of the Aphasia Group, their spouses, and their therapists. Twenty six participants chose an object to mark a point of progress and a point of communication. Then they wrote a companion text describing the object and their experiences with the Aphasia Group.

Aphasia is a communication disorder that does not effect intelligence. It is often brought on by a stroke but can appear for a variety of reasons. For more information visit the National Aphasia Association's website. The project is designed to be displayed on digital signage displays on the medical campus, interrupting the usual advertising messages with a more personal experience. It has been displayed at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, the Vanderbit Medical Campus, and the Nashville Public Library.

Stills from the project are below. Please click here to see the complete animations.
